Heard County Building & Zoning Inspecto
Consumer Report

Miscellaneous

I hired US Home Pro (complaint about him to follow) to build an addition on my home in 2011. This person did horrible work and I have been battling for over a year. False liens etc. But my complaint at this time is against Heard County.

During my renovation/addition of my 1955 home, I had to have new electrical wiring done in the addition and throughout the home.in order to do this the house was to be inspected several times by the Building Inspector to ensure it was brought up to code and done properly.

During my prepartion for suing the contractor last month, it was discovered that the Building and Zoning Inspector passed my home as safe and up to code. When in fact it is a fire hazard.

THe wiring in the ceiling above the addition is not in boxes and is just connected with caps, the ears were broken off of all of the recepticles and switches causing the plugs to recess into the wall when youplug something in. Anfd the outlets were not tamper proof.

I went to the Inspector last month and told him that my home should have never passed inspection. He basically said it was fine. When i said it was not fine, he shrugged his shoulders and handed me a 2008 codes book and told me to look up the codes myself.

When he was at my home during the "supposed" inspection he stood in the front yard with the contractor talking cars. He never once walked through my home.

I went to the County Commissioner, Lee Boone, who is his boss, and complained to him that my home was a fire trap and Floyd passed it as safe. He said "he would talk to him" I have not herd back from anyone.

I had a licensed contractor in my home yesterday and he officially inspected everything and is preparing a report for my use. He was in shock that my home passed inspection.

I have tried everything to get the county to do something about this but they are part of the good old boy network and have labled me as being difficult and ignore my pleas for something to be done.

I did attempt legal advice but was told that even though the damage was just found that anything after 6 months cannot be acted upon through the courts.

At this point I keep trying to speak with the codes enforcer and the Commissioner but they will not speak with me.

Is there anything I can do to bring attention to this type of negligence through the media. If this was done to my home how many other homes are death traps because of this guy's laziness and incompetence?

I sleep with fire extinguishers in every room. I cannot get this repaired untilI get a tax refund and the cost will be an additional $1000.00 - $1500.00 on top of $3500.00 I have already paid. Not to mention the numerous permits I paid the county for.

On another note this same inspector passed the insulation & plumbing in my home.

Yesterday it was discovered that there are no P traps on my shower, all of the new plumbing in the crawl space and ceiling are not weatherized or wrapped, the kitchen sink is not plumbed to code, it and the dishwasher drains out in to the backyard/pasture and there is no insulation in the ceiling of my addition. All of which I have sign off sheets stating they were in fact up to code. I need help somewhere somehow.
