Baiting with free ripoff Check Scheme

As of today (October 9), I received a check for $2.50 from Dell Financial Services. The check is a baited scheme to get me to unintentionally sign-up for Hot-Line (R), a credit card protection service provided by Trilegiant Corporation. Where the endorser signs, there is a lot of fine print above the signature line, but what stuck out most was:

"Unless I notify you to discontinue my membership during the one-month trial period, my membership will be automatically continued for an additional eleven months at the low $89.99 annual membership fee."

Who in their right mind would go through all the trouble to get $2.50 when there is the chance the if they aren't on top of their bills and reading carefully they can be charged about $90?! This is a scheme that many application fee-based creditors use to lure people into their scheme. I'm surprised Dell has stooped so low and resorted to such tactics.

I am destroying my $2.50 check and I'm considering buying pre-built systems elsewhere.'Got a Dell?' Not anytime soon in the future.
