Disputed Unauthorized Charge Ruled Legitimate With No Explanation

PayPal is supposed to be safe. Well, I was unfortunate enough to have some company charge me without permission. As soon as I saw this charge, I used the PayPal dispute process to try to get it reversed. For those who don't know, the process is supposed to go like this (according to PayPal themselves): you open a dispute, and a notice is sent to the party that charged you. That party has a time frame to respond and provide evidence to support the charge, and if they don't respond, the case is automatically decided in your favor. It sounded like I would get my money back for sure.

Then, no more than a week after opening the dispute, they sent me a notice that it was decided the payment was legit! What?? So I wrote to them and asked why they think I should pay this. The first time, I did not even get a response. I tried again and got someone who told me that the merchant had provided evidence that supports the charge. I told them that was not possible and asked them to please explain what they were basing this on. After 3 emails, they didn't respond.

So I went to my bank and told them the charge from PayPal was unauthorized because they refused to explain to me why I should pay it. I am lucky my bank is understanding and issued a chargeback. For that, PayPal closed my account, but I don't care. I wouldn't use them again anyway. PayPal makes it easy for people to get away with scams and doesn't feel the need to correct it!
