I dropped of a lap top that had a cracked screen. I had purchased an extended warrantee. When dropping off the laptop they suggested they run a diagnostic. The noted the contract that it was in for a cracked LCD and contact the customer if there was a problem with the hard drive. The laptop had no issues with he hard drive before going into the store. About 2 weeks later, the laptop came back in and I picked it up. The repair work stated that the Screen was replaced and that the hard drive was returned to manufactures specs.
Upon returning home, I boot up the lap top and found I had no operating system. I returned back to the store with in the hour, and was told that it was geek squad policy to replace the hard drive without contacting anyone since I had a warrantee, that because I declined data back up, it would cost any where from $260 to $1500 to try and recover the data. I asked for my hard drive back and was told that they do not do that. As of tonight I received a call that if I want my data backed up it would cost close to $400. I again asked why they did not call before completing unauthorized work on my laptop, and they stated I signed a waiver and should have paid for the $75 back up fee before I sent it. This is such a scam. Now costing me a minimum of $260 to place contents on DVD's and then paying an addition $10 per dvd over 7. The laptop had approximately 2500 itunes on it. Some much for a warrantee. I asked if I did not have a warrantee would they have contact me and they said yes. I probably also would not have had a bad Hard Drive if I did not have a warrantee.
