Earthlink doesnt recognize cancellation request-continues to bill me

In April 08, I sent in a payment for April and May service. I included in my bill, the words "CANCEL MY SERVICE. CLOSE MY ACCOUNT".

In June 08, I received my usual bill. (for june service). I called and spoke to a customer "service" rep. She said that I had received this bill in error, that she will take care of this and gave me a confirmation number.

In early July 08, I got another "business as usual bill". I sent a very specific letter to "customer service" detailing my situation including my confirmation number for cancellation of service.
In mid July, 08, I received another bill for what appears to be my existing account!

I called and talked to "WENDY" today, who told me that the cancellation was processed at the end of the billing cycle, therefore I was still responsible for June's service.

She threatened my credit record, and said I will still have to pay.

As far as I can tell, they still havent closed my account.

Thank God, I never signed up for automatic payments.
Earthlink customer service sucks and their dial up is slow. The tech support guy I once talked to said it was raining where he was in Pakistan. The reps can be difficult to understand and abrupt.
