Told I Owe $47.87 With No Proof, Threatened Credit Ruin

I am going to make this simple and quick, because details confuse the issue. PayPal says I owe them money for an old transaction. I told the person on the phone to please send me an invoice for this, and upon investigation I will pay what I owe. I do not think I owe what they are saying, $47.87, but if I do, I will gladly pay it once I see why. They told me to give them my credit card or bank info or they would ruin my credit. I said again, please tell me why I owe you this, and for what. They said again, give me your credit card info now or your credit will be ruined. I asked them to at least give me an address to send a money order to, but no, that was not good enough.

How can a company say you owe them money and not have to provide proof of it? Maybe I do owe them. I do not remember owing them anything, but I have a right to know why. Yes? Very poor consumer relations, and if you cannot tell me why I owe you money and for what, I am not giving out personal info over the phone to whoever.
