Asked for Bank Login Password to Verify Account Instantly

I have been a longtime eBay user, but have not used my account in the past year. Since my inactivity, I changed my bank, and PayPal did not have my new bank account number on file, although they did have an active credit card as a backup. Recently, I have been making many small purchases for a project, and there was no issue in paying for them via PayPal. After trying to pay for an item, I was told that I had reached my $10k limit, which was crazy.

PayPal prompted me to add my new bank account. My options were to send them the routing number and account number and wait several days to verify it, OR send them my bank login password for instant verification. I have NEVER had a company request this and have always been told NOT to give this out. Needless to say, I sent them my bank info for the 2-3 day process.

When I checked my checking account, there were several debits made for PayPal the same day, but I was still not able to use the PayPal website to send funds. After trying to contact customer service and speak to a human, I was told that the debits to my checking account were from a debit credit card, which is not true, and that I would have to wait 3-5 days for them to process it OR give them my personal password.

Sounds like blackmail to me, especially since I can only use PayPal and not any credit card.
