Verification Let Them Debit My Checking, Over $300 in Fees

About two months ago PayPal notified me that I had reached a "spending limit" and I would need to verify my account. Since I had no reason to distrust them, I supplied the information they asked for. I continued buying as usual on eBay and made some purchases that exceeded the amount I normally pay.

One day I started getting notices in the mail that my checks were bouncing. I checked the balance with my bank and was told it was negative. PayPal took it upon themselves to redirect the funding of my purchases to my checking account without so much as an e-mail letting me know. I have spent over $300 in bank fees for returned checks, and more will follow before this is over.

When I contacted PayPal, I was connected to the telemarketing group in Bombay and could not understand half of what was being said. But basically they told me that when I verified the account, it gave PayPal the right to debit my checking account as the default instead of the VISA card I have used since day one, 5 years, 5 months and 11 days ago. Somehow, overnight, I was no longer capable of making my own financial decisions, so PayPal stepped in to see to it that I was well taken care of.

Now I have been on the phone getting bucket after bucket of nonsense and runaround. I know I cannot be the only one affected by this racket PayPal has set up. I would love to be part of a class action suit brought against PayPal/eBay. I figure they owe me $300-400 in bank fees, $50,000 in damages to my reputation and another $50,000 for emotional stress. Who else out there is feeling the same pain? Please let me know if there is an attorney working on this. I want in on it.
