Took SSN and birthdate, wanted $79.95 for membership fee. Ripoff!

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this website!
While I was on the phone "confirming" my new credit card with USA Credit, I (on a hinky hunch) decided to google their company name, and THIS is the first site that popped up! Wow.

Unfortunately for me, I had already given them my SSN and birthdate and routing number for checking account but NOT my checking account number. (phew!)

I also did not do the final authorization of the $79.95 that they wanted for a membership fee after reading the accounts on this website. I spoke with a supervisor, Jessica Spaw, who assured me that all of my information would be purged from their computer if I did not go through the entire verification process. Hoping that is true!

Did anyone else get only that far, not get charged and never have any further problems (other than mass amounts of spam, of course?)?

My understanding of this company is this: It's not REALLY a credit card, it is only usable on their website. It is not able to be used on sale items, only full price items. Jessica's explanation for this is that they needed payment in full to give to their wholesale distributors when something was on sale so they could pay them right away (why doesn't the company have enough money set aside to do this anyway???..)

I have called my bank, and since they have my crucial information, anyone calling my bank to inquire about additional cards or withdrawals etc cannot do it without a special password that has NOTHING to do with birthdate or SSN, it is only in MY head. I would suggest this to anyone who has given their info.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to do, because they could still use my info to apply for a zillion other things... I am just having to take the word of a company whose first internet reference is "RIP OFF REPORT" (sheesh) that my information has been purged from their computer.

Anyway, thanks again for stopping me before I actually went all the way through with the verification!

DON'T DO IT!!! Hopefully the next person will stop before giving their SSN or other crucial information (I almost did stop and check first, but didn't check computer until AFTER giving it— stupid stupid stupid).

USA Credit— big ripoff, no return. Not worth a "free" Sony Playstation or Razr phone...
