Told to send a birth certificate, so I stopped payment

I tried getting some information about my account. The first person I spoke with asked for my name, SS # and birth date. I gave her the information, and she provided the information I wanted.
I called back looking for a little more information, primarily the interest paid last year for tax purposes. This time the person I got said I had the wrong birthdate and demanded that I send them a birth certificate. I assured her my birthdate had not changed in over 50 years and certainly had not changed in the last two hours. The person was adamant that I send them a birth certificate.
I went to their website and found out I could get the tax information online. But when I tried to create an account, I kept getting messages that neither my SS# nor my account number matched any of their records. I called the 800 number on their website and got to speak with not one but three incompetent people: the person who answered the phone, her supervisor, and the supervisor's manager. They said the problem was that someone at AES must have entered a typo, and I needed to provide them with documentation so they could fix the problem they created. When I suggested they check their records, I was told the only record they could check was the promissory note of the loan, and they did not have that. I suggested they should get the promissory note instead of my running down the documentation they wanted.
I also said that I was going to stop payment on the check I had just sent until they had the promissory note and could actually establish that I owed them anything. I told them I was stopping payment on the check I sent and would be sending no more payments, since I did not trust they would even credit the correct account.
