Eye Doctor's Optical Outlet
Eye Doctor's Optical Outlet bad frames and poor service - Fission glass frames

Health & Medicine

In November I got an eye exam and frames for two glasses and lenses for three. One of the frame/lens combos is my primary pair of bifocals. I think the pricing was pretty good at the time although I did think it weird that the folks at the counter couldn't switch out the nose pads for a smaller pad. After 6 months I noticed that the metal surface on my frames (Fission) —the arms -were pitting badly.in the first week of August the glasses just fell apart in my hands when I was switching to sunglasses. The arm itself just fell off the hinge connection. I finally got a chance to go to the store in mid-September and was told that the company would not replace the frames, but I was welcome to buy another pair of frames for $45. I declined - why would I buy something that was obviously sub-standard? They suggested (folks at counter) that if I wanted to get the current frames fixed, I could try a jewelers. Yes, I thought to myself, or any real optics store.in general, this store is sort of OK if you are desperate for a cheap pair of glasses, but the discount prices are not worth it if the glasses fall apart in under a year. The staff is barely capable of fitting your glasses, and if you need anything else, like different sized nose pads, you can forget it. I will never shop there again.
Note: I am 59 and do not exactly beat-up my glasses. The defective pair I had I wear about 1/2 the time, the other 1/2 the time is between computer glasses and sunglasses. The computer glasses, also Fission from the Optical Outlet, are holding up very well, although the metal is also pitting. My feeling is that glass frames should last about 2 years. I don't think this is unreasonable.
