Rental equipment failed/owner refused to negotiate

Saturday I rented a pigroast spit from what appeared to be a very nice rental company.
The company said if I had any trouble to call an emergency number.
After 3 hours of roasting my 120lb pig the shaft on the spit motor snapped.
I called the number and TWO hours later a truck arrived with a different type of spit.
After a pig is cooking for a few hours you cannot take it out of a spit without it falling apart. I also would have had to start another batch of charcoal. This would have let the pig cool down to the point of ruining it!
We ended up turning the spit by hand for another 5 hours!
I tried to negotiate with the owner for a discounted rate. His replies were:
-were you able to eat your pig? If so no discount.
-You refused a replacement spit. No discount
-Tell your friend who rotated the pig to call me and I'll give him $5 for his time.
I asked to take the $5 off my bill. No discount.
-You ruined my equipment. No discount
I will never do business with Adams Party Rental again. When you pay $160 to rent a spit for a crucial event you would at least figure I got at least an apology... NOT! Adams Party Rental
