Sent defective replacement, failed to reimburse for returned original product, failed to respond

I purchased two AccessHD DTA1050 Converter Boxes from the same stack in a local store. I hooked up one of them (hereafter called Box 1) right away and it worked well. I hooked up the second (Box 2) to the same TV set, using the same cables and power supply I used for Box 1 and it received about 20 fewer digital channels, including failing to receive several major networks. I telephoned Access, a division of GXI, and they sent me, as a free replacement, a DTA1080 Converter Box (Box 3) and a prepaid DHL ground shipping label for mailing back Box 2. However, this box was able to receive only one digital channel, again using exactly the same cables, power supply and TV set used for Box 1.

When I took the package with Boxes 2 & 3 to my local DHL drop-off location, I was told that DHL had canceled all its Ground shipping about a week beforehand, something GXI should have been aware of and yet I was not notified. Because I had a 7-day limit on returning the Box 2, I sent the package via USPS Express Mail. I faxed GXI requesting a refund for shipping and the full price of my original purchase of Box 2 including the value of the Commerce Department coupon as I had already used both coupons that were allotted to me. They responded that they were unable to refund the cost of the box, as it was not sold to me by them. I responded that they had the box that I paid for in their possession.

After 2 weeks of no further response I faxed them again and requested a reply within 48 hours; it is now more than 72 hours later and I have received none. Furthermore, I discovered that GXI, without notifying me, had posted an $80 charge to my credit card before they had sent me Box 3.
