Best Buy
False claims and refunds for products found selling for less elsewhere

Electronics and household app.

Beware of the Best Buy practices regarding refunding money if you find a product you purchased from them elsewhere for less.

I recently purchased a TV from best buy. The price was $999.99. According to both the salesman and brochures in the store, home set up was "included" in that price. However, when I went to sign the receipt, it indicated that the price for the TV was $899.99 and there was a $99.99 " set up" fee. I specifically questioned the saleperson about this. I said that I had paid $999.00 not $899.99 for the TV. He agreed and said that if there were ever a question in the future, It would be handled as though I had paid the full $999.99 for the TV and that the amount for set up was "bookkeeping matter".

2 weeks later, a friend saw that another store in town was selling the same TV for $899.97. I returned to the Best Buy with a copy that the other store's ad and my original receipt. To my surprise, the associate at Best Buy indicated that I was only entitle to 2 cents!!! As I had only paid $899.99 for the. I explained what the salesman had said regarding the charge for set up. She apologized but said that that was the charge.

However, after much discussion, it was clear that I could not buy the TV at best buy for 899.99. The only options that had be available to me at the time of purchase were:

1. Purchase the TV for $999.99 and do the set up myself
2. Purchase the TV for $899.99 with a required $99.99 fee for the "included" in home set up.

Note that I just checked the web site and it clearly states that inhome set up is "FREE" not just "included" with the purchase of TVs over $999.00.

In fact, they would NOT just sell me the TV for $899.99. However, she would still not refund me the money because she said the sale price for the TV was only $899.99.

Clearly, these practices are deceptive
