Innocent Prosecution

I subscribed to DTV in 1999. Prior to my subscription, I bought an old beat up satellite receiver and a stack of old smart cards from a garage sale. I wanted to use the cards and parts from the receiver to open a dead bolt on my front door.in order to do what I wanted to do, I needed to purchase a smart card reader/writer. So I did. I found it to be a challenge to make this work. After a year or so of trying, I gave up and threw everything in the garbage.

Jump to the present. I received a summons from DirecTV saying I purchased equipment in order to steal DirecTV's signal. All of this and I WAS still a paying subscriber. Immediately after receiving word that they wanted to sue me, I cancelled my subscription.

I have since found out that that there are literally tens of thousands of their paying subscribers being sued.
