From Financial Aid to a Financial Rip off. Does Madoff work for Kaplan? Boca Raton Florida

I was enrolled at Kaplan during 2006. During the middle of my last class to fulfill my Associates Degree requirements, I was block from my online classes for a supposedly missing Financial Aid document. I couldn't get in contact with anyone via telephone or email and so I failed the class.

I decided to try again being as though this was the last class needed. Everything was going smoothly for the first few weeks, then as the end of the semester neared, I was once again blocked from my online classes, so guess what happened AGAIN? I failed!

At this point, I am extremely frustrated and I just want to finish my last class. Kaplan tells me in order to repeat the last class I have to clear up a 3983.00 balance on my account. How I got this balance I will never know. So, I took out a private student loan and paid off the account.

I enrolled for the third time for my last class, and this time I would be paying out of pocket $800. A few weeks in to the course I was blocked and Kaplan withdrew my for non attendance.

Three tries and I still do not have my degree in my possession. Out of nowhere I receive a bill for 2297.00 from Kaplan and they are saying that money from the previous year had been returned. How do I go from having a zero account balance at the beginning of the semester to $2297 in a matter of weeks?

During this time I couldn't get in contact with my advisor because she wasn't responding to emails or telephone calls. I had also filed a complaint with the Dean of Students, once again no response.

Now, I am attending another University and I cannot get my transcripts because Kaplan wants me to pay this 2297.00, that I do not owe. So, it is either pay the 2297., or retake the 90 credit hours that I took at Kaplan.

Kaplan is taking advantage of people and their communication is severly lacking. I have mailed letters, sent emails, and made phone calls. Three years later I am no further than what I was when it all began. I contacted the BBB, but they were not able to solve the issues at hand.

A suit needs to be filed for those of us who are being taking advantage of by a school that is supposed to be helping us better our situation. My next step is to contact their accredidation department to see if they can help.
