I was called Saturday morning with a message from Sam with Government Grant Information Center. They are based out of Utah with offices in my state Minnesota. He went on describibg that I was guaranteed a government grant of $5000, only 9,000 people were given this grant in my state. He asked if I was over 18 and under 59 years old, asked if I pay my taxes. I was told that to get to the next person that I ws to give him my banking information. I asked if he needed my account info, he said yes. I tols him that I didn't feel comfortable with that so I asked to be cut a check for the grant amount. He told me that there have been problems with checks getting to the correct people and addresses. He assured me that my information was not going to be used for anyother purpose than receiving my grant monies. He went into how if he did that his family and himself would be arrested, the cops would come to Utah. "we are here to help you" Ronnie Said. I then asked to talk with his manager. He said hold on for 10 seconds... Then came back on as Sam, who sounded the same and used the same phrase "thats wonderful sir" after I answered a question or asked one.
I told him that I would call my bank and open a seperate savings account, he quickly came back with it needs to be a checking account.
I talked to my bakning services and they said even if you open a checking account with $20, they can still use your routing numbers to get checks made and the fees will pile up on that account that you are responsible for, it has your name on it.
After I got home I did some digging into this Govt. Grant place and found this site. I am still waiting for my call back.
If you are quick witted and have time on your hands have some fun with the people that call you. Take control of the call and YOU ask the questions. These people are smart and have an answer for everything. Remember that if you are the receiver of a Govt. Grant you will be notified by mail and not by phone.
