Approximately 6 weeks ago, I contacted the Sears center where I purchased my PowerMate cannister vac. I didn't know what extension to request, so the automated answering machine transferred me to repair center.

The lady who took my call was friendly. She suggested I order the part that was broken. When I asked, she stated that it would not come with instructions but that I could call back and someone would help me if I needed it. I did and ordered some bags as well.

When the parts arrived, I called the store again and left a message.

Then I called repair center who helped me find an online diagram. I thought I could follow it to replace the part I had ordered.

The associate returned my call and told me that I could bring it in for an estimate since I had all the parts, and it would not cost me more than labor for the job I started.

I tried to replace the part, and I was afraid I would do damage to the machine once I got to a certain point. I called the store again to confirm that it would only be a labor charge before I brought it in. I knew it would take at least 10 days to get the machine back and was planning to buy an upright on sale to use until it was repaired and then keep it as a backup. This person told me that in addition to paying over $30 for parts that were shipped to me, I would have to pay $30 for someone to examine it plus labor costs.

Needless to say, I did not take the vacuum to the store. I did not purchase an upright on sale. I purchased an upright locally, and I will be taking it to a local repair shop who is going to charge me only labor since I am furnishing the parts I purchased.

I was disappointed because I have been a customer of this company for many years, and I received mixed messages from my initial contact about this problem.
