After reading the fine print while trying to buy a Pottery Barn bed frame, it became apparent that they are trying to double dip on shipping.
What started out as a sale price of only $999 quickly escalated to $1336.32, or over a third of the sale price. Here is how it works, or not. Pottery Barn hits you with a $150 delivery surcharge, which includes setup, and then a shipping and processing charge, in this case a suspicious $99.90.
It is obvious that they are trying to pass the overhead of interstate business on to the consumer, but where are the savings? A local store may be a better option. I do not need to pay $150 for a 5 minute bed setup, and I am unable to opt out of that service.
