Below is the letter we sent to Power Air and the BBB.

August 7

Barry:

In September of 06, we paid $7,830.00 cash to Power Air Systems, Ridgewood, NJ, to have a new Heating and Air Conditioning system installed. There have been problems with both systems. You came out here the preceding winter because one side of the house downstairs was 100 degrees, while the other side of the downstairs portion of the house was in the 60's. You said nothing could be done because of the way things were laid out.

The first summer in 07 we turned on the air and we had very little air. You came out and said it was low on freon. You filled it and it worked. This summer when we turned the air on we had none again. Someone came out and said the core in the attic was frozen. We shut the system off and he came back out the next morning and they went back into the attic, came down, turned it on and it was working. That night when my daughter came home she came out of her room and told us it was getting no air. I called you immediately. The following are the dates and times that you said someone was going to be out here to fix the problem:

June 6 9-11
June 17 1-3
June 26 9-11
June 27 9-11
July 18 9-12
July 23 9-12
July 24 1-3

Each time you didn't show or call, when I got you on the phone you said there were a lot of emergency calls and you didn't have the time. I said it was fine to take care of those with no air first, as we were in the 90's. Each time you rescheduled you would not even call to let us know you weren't coming. Meanwhile, my daughter has not been able to sleep in her room. When you didn't show or call on the 23rd and I got you on the phone near the end of the business day, you gave me a time on the following day.

I asked you if you were going to definitely come this time and you gave me your word that you would. I said to you to please not to make me sit around waiting again for hours if you were not coming. You assured me that you would be here. So when you didn't show or call again on the 24th I finally stopped being so understanding. After leaving that message, you returned my call and sent someone here the following day. He was here for all of five minutes, adjusted the damper and left without ever seeing if that took care of the problem. Said if it didn't he would be back to install an additional vent.

On August 6th, I called telling you my daughter's room still had no air. And, water was now dripping out of the kitchen vent. You said someone would be here the next day between 9-11 am. At 11 I called and left a message because no one showed. At around 12:15 I called again leaving you a message telling you that I have been a homeowner since 1986 and have never been treated with such disregard by a contractor.

You have no regard for our time, keeping us here day after day waiting for someone that was not coming, never calling to let us know. Since the beginning of the summer my child has not been able to sleep in her bed.in the past I have worked for two contractors and never have they treated a customer as you have treated us.

If I don't hear from you by August 12, I am going to call someone else to come and fix whatever is wrong and will take you to court for whatever it costs me, along with compensation for all the hours of inconvenience you caused us waiting for you, for my daughter not being able to sleep in her room for two months, the aggravation you've caused us and attorney's costs.

In addition, in light of everything that's happened I no longer believe what you told us about nothing can be done regarding the heating issue. When the cold weather arrives, I intend to get another contractor here for a second opinion. If he is able to fix the problem that you claim is unfixable, you will be hearing from us again.
