Incompetent, stubborn old man who should get out of the heating & cooling business

In the fall of Scully was hired by Bryan Mathis of Mathis Construction, Crest Hill, to install a second furnace and air conditioner for my second floor. I added a bedroom suite upstairs, an addition to the kitchen and a basement room underneath.

From the beginning Scully's ductwork showed he was totally confused. I know nothing about heating and cooling, and I could tell he screwed up. According to 4 heating and cooling companies who came to check out the problems, the furnaces are backfeeding and if both go on at the same time, the blowers could go out. They gave me an estimate to correct the problems ($4500 and up). I paid $9200 to fix it right in the first place.

Scully did not provide a vent to heat the new basement room. And not only does a lot of the new ductwork leak (which he refused to fix and said it wasn't his job nor was it in the village code), he merged it with the old ductwork. As a result, when the thermosthat upstairs is set on 70, my old bathroom is 74 degrees, my old bedroom (which used to be a toasty 70) will not heat above 68 degrees, and the other 2 old bedrooms will not heat above 63. If it's really cold out, my daughter's old bedroom will not heat above 59 when the door is closed. The duct that was installed for my daughter's bedroom is too large, and could be part of the reason the other rooms are cold.

Scully refuses to fix the problem -"it's an incredible mess" were the words of the heating and cooling contractor yesterday.

Scully came back once to check the problem and was very angry, raised his voice, made a small adjustment and left. He has no respect for women who question his work. Mathis even said he didn't know if he would hire him again. Obviously he has a problem with Scully's work, because he brought another contractor over, who put in some useless 1/2 damper.

My remodeling work was done by the incompetents: Scully, Mathis, his framers, and his drywall guy.
