Cancelled contract, bad service, don't trust them ripoff

Three years ago, we purchased an air conditioning unit from Crum's. Along with a $14.10 monthly service contract with the PROMISE of covering any mechanical or electrical repairs for a simple $60 service fee. Sounded great!

The contract also provided 2 'checkups' a year (when you can get an appointment).
Well, this is where things started going very wrong. On our last check up, the tech said, "Hey, there's been a change to the contract... Now only $9.95 a month and 1 yearly checkup instead of 2!" So we thought, ok, that will be alright. I gave him our credit card so he could make the change to the monthly service charge (why did he need the card???) and thought all was well. He leaves.

We get a call 2 minutes later that HE LEFT W/MY CREDIT CARD! He then brought back the card. After he left again, we realized the ac had not kicked on in a while. Things were really warming up now!

We find that the digital thermostat is blank. This kid left the ac off! Luckily, my husband figured out that the breaker was left off, the batteries were taken out of the thermostat (what?) Also, screws were left out of the ac unit cover.

Needless to say, we were CONCERNED. What else did this kid do wrong? SO, we requested another maintenance person to come out and double check the work done to our unit. Well, the next available apt. Was in 4 weeks. Dan came out. He was great. Really! Dan seemed to know what he was talking about. (I read another complaint saying that Dan quit. Good for Dan!)

Unfortunately, Dan pointed out some problems. He said we needed Freon ($145.00), a leak check ($162.00) and a Contactor ($212.00). And, we have MOLD. Something the '2 yearly maintenance check ups' were suposed to stop. (They spray something in the unit to stop the mold. So they say.)

I thought GREAT! Not to worry! We have a 'Maintenace Plus' contract and these repairs will be covered! NOT SO just 2 months ago, Crum's 'DECIDED' to void the contract agreements. I CAN'T believe it! What timing!

The unit is only 3 years old and we already need reparis? And after spending $507 in monthly fees, we now only get a 25% discount on any service or repair?
SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT.

The repairs we need cost 529.00. We will only save $132.25.

I'm so upset. We already 'gave' them $507 in contract fees, so now we're OUT $903.75 PLUS they neglected to keep mold out of our system like the 'check-ups' promised! How CRUMMY can you get?

We're going to price around for the same repairs.
And WE'RE GETTING RID OF THE CRUM's! They have been in business for a long time, but I don't know how. Maybe at one point they were decent. What a shame. I highly suggest you avoid dealing with this company. Even if they have good offers, they are misleading, and TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Don't trust them.
