Sears
Ripoff Diehard Gold Battery problems

Cars & Transport

I had a brand new Sears Diehard Gold Battery installed in my car in the year of 2001.in December of my car would not start. I had a neighbor who is experienced in automobile repair to take a look at the car. He told me it was the battery and suggested for me to take it back to Sears since the battery was under warranty.

He gave me a jump and I took my car to Sears where they diagnosed the problem as being the battery. They replaced the battery and charged me around 12 dollars. I didn't have a problem with that. I just wanted car to run and Sears to honor their warranty.

Last month (October), I started experiencing problems with my car while driving. The display on the dash read, "System Recharging". My car then decelerated and cut off. I had the car towed home. I made an appointment with my Cadillac Dealership on the following day.

The dealership told me that I had a major electrical problem and my alternator, positive battery cable, and battery needed to be replaced. I told them that my battery was under warranty and I would take the battery to Sears to resolve the battery issue. The gentleman at Sears explained he needed to place the battery on their machine for thirty minutes.

When the thirty minutes expired, I went to the front counter for the results. The gentleman told me that the test results showed that the battery was fine. I took the battery back to the dealership and explained what took place at Sears. My dealership told me that the machine will read that the battery is fine but, there aren't enough cold cranking amps in the battery to power my car.

I called Sears and explained what my dealership told me. The gentleman put me on hold and came back to the phone and told me that they would give me my money back. I went there and some hotshot manager intervened. He said that they could only give me the pro-rated amount back in a refund. I was not told that I would receive a pro-rated amount of money over the phone. I was lead to be under the impression that I was going to get a full refund.

I told the manager about the lack of cold cranking amps in the battery and asked why they simply could not replace the battery itself. He gave me some mumbo jumbo story about the original date of purchase was in 2001 and time has exceeded past the point where they could not do that. I then explained that the original battery purchased in 2001 was replaced simply because there was a problem with the battery itself. I even had my Sears paperwork with me to back my story.

I got frustrated so I simply asked him to give me money so I could get the hell out of there! After he refunded me my money. I then pulled over the guy that was helping me first. I explained to him about the situation concerning the lack of enough cold cranking amps in the battery.

He pulled out a book or manual that showed that the Sears DieHard Gold did not have enough cold cranking amps that the dealership said I needed. I still did not get anywhere or justice with him. Even though he was polite, I was disappointed with Sears that day.

Who should I blame in this instance? The insensitive, poor, customer service that seems not to be mechanically inclined to understand about cold cranking amps or the battery? I will let you answer that yourself.

By the way, they will never get another dime out of me for the rest of my life!!!
