I took my Volvo to them because they said they fix them. I took it in on thursday night and called them to check on friday. They said they could not find anything wrong but had a few more things to check first and they would call me. They didnt.
Monday was labor day so I waited and called them on tuesday. John the mechanic on my car said he still could not find anything but there were still more things for him to check and he would call me as soon as he knew. He didn't call. On Wed I called back and the owner said he would have him call me in a few minutes. He finally called me on thursday. He told me that my car needed a new transmission, the fluid was completely contaminated with metal chunks and "stuff", I only had park, reverse, first and second gears. I lost overdrive, passing, third and fourth. It required a new transmission. The transmission would cost between $1300 and $2800 making the total charge $3000 to $3300. I had called the Volvo repair place I always went to before. They told me the absolute worst case scenario would be $900.
I took my car to the Volvo shop. They went thru my car and called me the next day. They told me what was wrong was my car needed an overdrive relay and some new wiring, because it had a short in it. The total cost for all of that was under $200.
Had I let Lee Myles fix my car I would be out $3000 for nothing that was majorly wrong. I knew there was something wrong when he kept saying he couldnt find anything wrong, then all of the sudden came back with ALL of this stuff that was wrong with it. To tell me that they found all sorts of stuff in my fluid means they had to drop the pan, that is a $500 charge according to them but I was not charged a thing, which means they did not drop the pan. When the other place dropped the pan they said it was clean, in "great condition". The other place also told me that in a Volvo the reverse gear is the first to go so they knew something was wrong there.
I feel they discriminated against me because Im a female and shouldnt know anything about cars. They didnt know I was raised by a mechanic.
They couldnt find what was wrong, so they lied to me and tried to charge me 7 TIMES the amount for a transmission. They were going to charge me $2800 for a $400 transmission. It just makes me angry to know that this is their business. How many other people do they actually rip off.
It seems they are pulling the same stuff that AAMCO did in the 80's when there was a National Civil Law Suit against them for this same thing.
