On August 14th I purchased a 2000 Dodge Intrepid from S & J Motors. On Sept 08 the car "threw a rod". I contacted S & J Motors and explained to them that "something" had occurred with the car that day and asked that "Bo" (the owners son) please come to my job and tell me what the problem was and what actions I needed to take. The owner Steve Martini assured me that he'd have Bo over ASAP. Several hours later I made another call to the dealership and asked once more to have someone please take a look at the car because i was afraid to drive the car until I was sure it would be safe to do so. Shortly thereafter Bo arrived and after listening to the car on start up he informed me that the car had 'thrown a rod'. The first question he asked me was regarding "purchasing the extended warranty" and when I informed him that the the owner of the dealership hadn't offered me one he told me that there had to be a mistake because he and I had discussed my buying the extended warranty and he knew that I had wanted one, but he also said that it's typical of them to add it without informing the customer when they KNEW in advance that a local bank would be purchasing my contract from the dealership. He then informed me that he'd talk to his father (Steve Martini, the owner) and let me know the next day what they would do in regards to repair.

The following day 09/09/04, when I hadn't heard from anyone at the dealership I called a mechanic to inquire about repair costs and the length of time that the car would be out of service. The mechanic informed me that it would be expensive to repair (between $4000-$7000) and that he couldn't promise that the new motor would be any better because these cars are prone to this problem. His advice was that since I had the car for less than 30 days was to return it to the dealer or request that they either repair it themselves or replace it with another auto.

I then called Bo to ask him what they'd decided. I had to leave a voice mail and wait for him to return my call. Unknown to Bo I already knew that they'd decided not to repair or replace the auto because Bo had talked to both My daughter and an employee of mine stating this. When Bo did return my call He himself informed me that they would not stand behind the auto that they'd sold me less than 3 week prior.

I then contacted the bank that purchased my contract from S & J Motors and Casey (account manager) informed me that this was a problem that S & J would have to solve. They advised me that I had signed a "note" for just over $8000 for this auto and that they would insist that I either pay to them what they had paid to S & J Motors or that they would re posses the car and/or take me to court for those charges.

Currently I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7 liter engine that cost me $8000.00, that needs between $4000.00 - $7000.00 in repairs. I WILL be filing a complain with the Oklahoma BBB and I am also filing a complaint with the Oklahoma Used Car Association.
