Bill Not a licensed Mechanic who crashed my vehicle and refused to pay

I went to Bill on a referral from a close friend because he did do good work on his car. Bill advised the engine needed to be replaced and said he found one for $1100. I handed him the money and he acquired the engine as promised for my Mazda Miata as promised. He was going to charge $400 for labor for replacing the engine. He put the engine in but it was no good. So he got the engine rebuilt and installed the engine in. He had his son driving the vehicle and he totalled it and the son did not have any insurance and will not claim under his insurance.
