Failed to notify owner that car was moved/stored and no repairs done to car

I took my car to get repaired this repair shop keept my car over 2 1/2 months with no repairs done. I call the repair shop to see what is taking so long the shop owner tells me on the phone he has no time to do repairs come get the car any time no charge for holding the car so long with no work done to it. This was on a thrusday. The following monday i go to pick up my car its gone from the repair shop. The owner will not talk to me to telll me what the hell is going on. The next day i get a letter from a storage saying i have to pay 1000 dolllars to get my car from them. Thy should not even be in posession of my car. This repair shop sent me no mail, certified mail, e-mail, text showing the car was moved or needed to be moved. I was not notified in any way and i can proove it. Can the repair shop prove with documevtation that i was notified no they sure as hell havent proved it to me but they took my car and is planing to auction it what a rip off this cant be legal
