Cars & Transport

I don't know if this is common practice, but here it goes. I was in Daytona Nissan looking to see what I would need to get outa my 2000 Grand Am GT and get into a more dependable new car with a warranty. I have had 3 nissans and I love them, very dependable and nice looking.

I currently own a 2003 Xterra. I explained to salemans my situation of being upside down almost 6000 dollars and I only had 1000 dollars to play with. So, I need a car with a nice rebate and a decent markup to eat up my negative equity.

I was in the back and we found a very nice silver Sentra SE-R SpecV. I told him there is no way I could afford that car, but there was a catch. That particular car was damaged in the lot, with some paint discoloration and a paint scrap under the pass mirror and the right front rims. The salesman then told me that he could severely discount that car and apply the savings to my upside down and get me the rebates. I was like cool can you find out the payments for me base on my Wife's credit score? Had my wife's score checked and in the Finance box, the salesman and a credit manager came out and told me with my 1000 dollars down I could get payments of 424 per month, which was very acceptable to me.

I got a check for 1000 and presented it to them, they did up the deal and I was on my way. 3 weeks later, I receive a phone call from my salesman, that there was problem with financing and that they needed me on the loan for extra income, I did not object.

Then I got a call that the financing was completed and that there was some paperwork to sigh, so I said cool I will be down there. I asked was there a change to the contract? He said NO! I get there and all of a sudden my payments went from 424 to 495. I asked what was the problem, they said they couldn't give me the car for the discounted price. I then asked for my old trade back. They had me and my wife sit in the waiting area for at least 2 hours, ignoring us.

Then he asked me that what if another car was good? My wife said let's go look and see, then brought her to a Sentra SE-R (Not the SpecV model) and said we could easily get that car. I told him I know he cars prices and the car you just showed me cost 300 less than the car we had. That doesn't explain the jump in almost 2000 dollars.

He then said well if I don't like this car we just have to give you your old car back. I said fair enough, then he went outside to check the conditon of the Snetra and was pissed off that i had put 2500 miles on it. He complained to me but I told him well the purpose of having a car is to drive it? I just wanted to put this out to everybody to make sure you get the financing completed BEFORE you leave, make sure it is done prior to leaving, I basically loved that Sentra I had and they wanted to us the attachemnt to the car I had to make it hard for me to say no to the new payments, they were wrong. Nissan is even still sending me letter of congrats on my new car, Daytona Nissan sucks.
