I thought ford back up there product

I own a 2004 f150 lariat crew cab 4x4. I have 89800 miles on this vehicle and i'm hearing a ticking noise from my lifters. I just had a major service about 8000 miles ago and i took it back to the dealership and they told me that it would cost about $6500 to fix this problem or about $9000 for a new engine. I've owned 8 ford vechicles and this is the only one that has ever faild me. I really do love my fords and want to stay with them, but i can't believe after reading similar problems with the 5.4 motor that f0rd motor company doesn't have an easier fix that would not cost so much. They told me i can drive it until the engine light comes on and then its done... I guess i'm just complaining about how fustrated i am. If you have any answers or solutions i would really appreciate it. (the dealership told me to add slick 50 in to my oil and it might make the lofter noise go away). What kind of mechanics are they hiring now.
