Canada's Snow Tire Fee

Quebec law mandates that cars be equipped with snow tires from December 15 to March 15. Budget, understandably, charges a fee for this. The problem is that they charge the fee from November 1 to March 31! A customer service rep emailed me this information when I wrote to them to ask for a refund of this fee since I made a rental on March 16. I paid around $20 on a one-week rental.

To me, this is clearly a cash-grab and yet another example of a corporation subtly stealing from its customers. It doesn't matter when exactly Budget changes the tires in Quebec. Charging the fee from Dec. 15 to March 15 would be more than enough to recoup its expense. I addressed this to the head office of Budget (6 Sylvan Way, Parsippany, NJ 07054) because I made and paid for a reservation on its website.
