Do Not Give Them Cash

On February 2 at approximately 1700 hours a vehicle was rented (white, Toyota Rav4, license plate # CA 6NIJ598) refereed through AAA. The representative who went by the name "Mike", last name unknown at this time, processed all the information needed on my part into the computer using my debit card for payment hold. According to Alex Wargo (manager), whom I spoke to on the phone, after getting the run around from customer service and another hertz representative at the same location were the vehicle was rented from. Stated, "payments ($291.16) are put on hold until the return of the vehicle along with the down payment ($140.00)", total $431.16.

My complaint with Hertz boils down to the representative taking the down payment of $140.00 in cash. Based on arguments with customer service, another representative, and Alex Wargo (manager) representative are not allowed to take cash from consumers. Nevertheless, Mike did take cash in the sum of $140.00. During the transaction Mike had asked if there was enough funds to cover the down payment in the debit card. I replied to him there was not enough to cover the down payment but, I did have cash. Mike then took the cash and stated, the money would go into your account and placed on hold and returned into your account when the vehicle is returned.

When the vehicle was returned a week later, Mike was at the counter.inquiring about the down payment, Mike stated it would take a couple of weeks before I would see it in my account. Two months later, the $140.00 never showed up into my account.

For the reader, what do you think happen to the $140.00 cash down payment? Again, according to employees of hertz (customer service, another representative, and Alex Wargo-manager) representative are not allowed to take currency from patrons. Consequently, Mike did take $140.00 in cash which means theft was committed. As I stated to Mike during my transaction, "this was the first time I rented a vehicle from Hertz at this location". And, it will be the last time I will rent a vehicle from Hertz at any location.
