Why your car is broken

I used to work at a Firestone in Brick N.J. And will tell you why your car broke and why you got charged so much to fix it! First they after three weeks of working there send me to a 3 day classroom to learn the way that thongas are to be done here. They "pride themselves "about acutacy and thoroughness. They strss That all lug nuts are to be hand tourqued to manufacturers specs. Then they tell you how to lie on the work order in order to recommend repairs! Basically find things wrong with expensive or time consuming items and sell that they are bad and need replacement. Then I got back to my shop trying my new skills. The work order they make techs fill out is absurd. There about 100 items to check. That brings me to my next problem "flat rate". All work is flat rate and the first thing they want you to do is thoroughly inspect about 30 items in the car in about 6 min. They tell you to put the oil cap on the hood latch so that if you forget to put it on in your frantic pace you won't be able to either shut the hood or break the cap. This is a policy! The checking you are doing on these items is only glanceing at them. You are running around at such a fast and unsafe pace you are bound to forget to do something on the car. You could easily at the pace they want you working forget to - put oil in, a lug nut, tighten the lug nuts, close the air filter, hubcap, put a reservoir cap back on. So after that goes wrong you have to come back in again gor another repair! More money. Goog luck and get your car fixed at the Dealer or be skilled enough to DIY. Avoid Firestone at all costs.
