Paid for tire rotation - they didn't do it?

Cars & Transport

I went there just to get my tires rotated. I gave them my key and went to look around in the store while they were supposed to do the work. I came back about 15 minutes later. I looked outside and could see my car, and it was in the exact same spot that I parked it in. I accidentally parked my car kind of crooked and in the left side of the lane. I figured they hadn't even started the work yet, but to my surprise the lady said the work was done. I paid $10 and went to my car. I checked how it was positioned, and it was EXACTLY how I parked it. Crooked at an angle and pretty close to the left line of the parking spot. I was immediately suspicious because the chances of the mechanic parking exactly how I did is slim. The front tires of a car are usually dirtier than the back because they do most of the braking, and the brake dust, etc. Dirties the hub caps or rims, but I keep my car clean so there was no way of telling. I wash my car almost every week.

I took my car to another mechanic, and he couldn't tell either. However, the mechanic that actually DID rotate them at the second place said that the tires were pretty hard to remove, and that it felt like they hadn't been removed in a long time. Which makes sense because they hadn't been rotated for at least 7,000 miles if Walmart did not actually rotate them.

Also, I had the second mechanic measure the tread depth, and he got different results than what Walmart did. Walmart did accurately get the tire pressure right, which was 30 for all tires. They also wrote down the mileage on the odometer, etc. I just think they didn't want to bother with actually rotating the tires because they were only getting $10.in my opinion and the second mechanic's opinion too, they DID not rotate the tires. However, I cannot prove it. I might go back to Walmart and see what they say.

My advice to everyone is to NEVER trust mechanics and if you can do the maintenance yourself then go ahead and do it. Also, if you're getting a professional to rotate your tires then be sure to mark them or just stay there and watch the mechanic do the job. It doesn't take long to rotate tires. I do probably 90% of the maintenance on my car myself. Next time I will probably just take the time and rotate the tires myself.
