Because they wanted the business, offered to let me pay 35% in a postdated check but cashed the check before the date I gave them

In order to get you to use their shop for their overpriced repairs (just found out they charge 20% more than local dealer), they kindly offer a "payment plan" where you can give them 65% at the time of repair and postdate a check for the balance to be cashed at a date of your choosing within a 30-day period.

Their system of keeping track of when you want your check cashed is apparently a post-it note. I asked them to hold my check until two days after payday on the 15th. I knew at the time it was not a good idea but needed the repair done and agreed to the postdated check. I was nervous about it and was assured that it would not be cashed before the 17th. Much to my horror, they did not hold the check until the 17th, they cashed it on the 11th and of course, I did not have the funds to cover the check.

When I called them about it I was told by the woman on the phone that she had dug through the trash and found the post-it note that said the 11th on it. I told her that I had watched the service manager write the 17th on the paper but she said it would have only been written on a post-it note and that note said the 11th.

Long story short, apparently I asked them to cash the check four days before I was to be paid because I am just that stupid. It was not their fault that I didn't have the funds to cover the check and I should be thankful that they even offer that "payment plan" service in the first place.

So BEWARE of their kindness. Take your car to the dealer or another shop where the repair total will most likely only cost the 65% down that they would require for their "payment plan."
