Auto Repairs rip-off ""

I drive a 1992 Buick Roadmaster with 45,000 actual miles. I heard a noise when I put on my brakes a couple of times. I took it to American Auto Tire & Service at 1523 S. Dixie Freeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL to have it checked. They pulled off all 4 wheels and then gave me their report and estimate.

I think the first thing they checked was that I was a woman alone. They advised me that I needed Front Brakes Complete, Rear Brakes Complete and replace wheel cylinders, 4 new shocks. Total estimate was $614.38 and they would rotate my tires free. I told them to just put my wheels back on and not do the work at this time. They told me it was UNSAFE to drive my car at all. Drove it home anyway.

My son lives about 35 miles away and is a mechanic. I didn't want to bother him but did anyway. He took my car to where he works. (He works for a company that he does all the repairs on their trucks, etc.) Took off the wheels, inspected everything. Said my brakes were hardly worn at all; looked almost new. Had a small leak in one wheel cylinder.

The shocks were a bit worn. There was nothin dangerous at all about my brakes. He told me that is why he would not work at a place like that because they are told to rip people off. It certainly is a shame that other widows like myself and people who do not have someone like my son to protect them get ripped off by people like this. They should be prosecuted.
