Santander Consumer USA Avoidable Repossession, But Not With Uncooperative and Incompetent "Professionals"

Cars & Transport

I just had my car repossessed, because I did not have any cooperation from Santander Bank. Sovereign Bank originally had my car loan. Santander bought the car loan accounts from them. I have always been on time with my payments until my fianc was laid-off. I have attempted to refinance, but Santander stated that they were unable to. I then attempted to apply for a personal loan and needed a letter from Santander, with their letterhead, stating how much I was behind. I called several times and they stated that they could not produce such a letter and could only produce a billing statement. This was not enough for the company that I applied a loan with. Santander told me that I had to wait until I received the letter of repossession. When I finally received the letter, it had the Drive letterhead. The company that I was applying with had strict guidelines from the federal government and needed a letter stating that Santanders old name was Drive. Santander stated that their system still had the Drive logo and changes have not been updated since they took over in June. They still refused to produce a letter showing that Drive and Santander were the same entity. The loan company that I was working with tried to rationalize if Santander and Drive were the same entity, but couldnt because, my account number was different on the billing statement and the repossession letter. I asked a representative if they could just simply write this letter for me. They unprofessionally said, Have the company call us and we will confirm that we are one in the same. The bank came to repossess my car on October 1. The letter of repossession was dated October 1. I received the letter on October 5. The letter stated that the car was to be auctioned 10 days after the date of the letter, not when I received the letter. I called to Santander almost pleading for a simple letter defining the relationship between Santander and Drive and an explanation of the difference in account numbers. I was told by the last representative that I spoke with that I could have submitted a request for a letter to be made by the legal department, but that would take two weeks and my car would have been sold by then. I asked her what could I do? She told me to try to apply with a different borrower. I hung up very upset and angry. With all the harassing phone calls received from them that amounted to about 2 phone calls per day to each of my listed phone numbers everyday including Sundays, not one representative mentioned this fact of the legal department composing a letter that could have salvaged my main mode of transportation. I went online and was not surprised to find many complaints about their company. I couldn't wait to add my story to the list of complaints.
