Just Brakes
Ripoff Quoted $99.98 but my car was up there on the lift and the manager would not let me go without me signing the paper work to get this "$239" job

I took my 1998 Subaru Outback to this store for a brake service on April 21 because I heard the "great deal" ($99.88, all 4 brakes) on the radio.

When I came to the shop, I mentioned the $99.88 special, the service manager answered yes. He filled out the paperwork with $99.88 as the total cost and I signed the paperwork.

In a few minutes my car's tires were disassembled. The service manager then came to me with a brake pad from my car and told me the total will be $529 because my brake caliber needs to be rebuilt and I also need new disc hardware and new shim kit.

I was shocked at the price. My Subaru dealer only quoted me $350 for a full brake service. I then decided to get a 3rd opinion before I spend $529 on the brake service.

But the service manager told me that even if I do not do the service, they would have to charge me $99.88 to put the tires back. He also offered me an alternative which was to replace the brake pads only. That would cost me $239.

I asked him about the $99.88 that he wrote on the paper. He said for Subaru Outback, it had to be $239. Why didn't you tell me the real price when I first came in with my Subaru Outback? I was really really mad. This is a total scam. My car was up there on the lift and the manager would not let me go without me signing the paper work to get this "$239" job.

My colleague (also a lady) who was with me tried to help me argue with the manager. But no use. I called my husband and he tried to argue with the manager. But no help either. I was told explicitly that I could not leave the place without re-signing the paperwork and paying for that $239 "service".in order to get back to work (I was already late at that time), I had to pay them $239 to put the brake pads and the tires on.

But I swear this would not be the end of it. I'm going through all the web sites where I can find to file complaints. Im trying to let all the people know about how just brakes do your business. I'm sure my efforts will make this scam business pay back, not just $239, counting all the customers you loose, you do the math.
