Firestone Complete Auto Care
Lies about markup and Trys to sell you the most expensive part

Cars & Transport

I've rarely had Firestone do any work other than a quick oil change. Untill about 2 years ago. I was geting ready for a trip and found a broken shock on the rear of my suv.

In a bit of a rush. I called and got a quick ruff estimate to have both rear shocks replaced. The next morning when I showed up at the shop and all my car specs was keyed into their computer. The ruff cost of 500, tripled to 1,500.00!! For 2 shocks??? After some discussion with the manager. He then says, He thought i needed struts Then says that price, is the cost to convert my suv from shocks to struts an upgrade. And it was a mistake in the computer. Eventualy he gets me a price around 500 for shocks lobor and realingment.

Which brings me to my current experince. I needed some work done and my local Suzuki dealership has closed, so back to Firestone I go. Their price was about 150 more, than what the dealership had quoted a few months back. But with the current economy a price increase didn't suprise me. I also was having a new problem so I had them do a diagnostics to find the problem. Comes out I need a new sensor. Was told it was a hard to find part and they had located 2 one in California and it could be over nighted and it was 615.00 the other could only be shipped ground and was gonna cost 575.00

I decided to do my own looking. From an online parts store the cost was 180.00. I called around localy and found it available for 191.00. Heres where i realised this shop was trying to take me for a ride. When I called the local part store. They were surprised by my call. Due to the fact I have a fairly rare car and I was the second call that day. When I asked them they told me that yes. The local Firestone had an account and got discounted prices from them and yes. They had called a got a price quote for the part I needed.

When the I confronted the manager. He said that part was not OEM and the 575 to 615 $ part was. It had to be ordered from the Manufacture and would be coming from a NAPA. But, He could get the local part and It would cost me 258.00. So when I asked what the markup was he said 25%. I pointed out that that price was over 25% and that with the discount they got from the supplier I suspected the markup was closer to 75% to 100%

Heres the problem I have. Firestone knew there was an available part. But, proceeded to try and sell me on a part that was gonna cost 2 to 3 times as much. Also, I decided to call NAPA and was informed the OEM part was 250.00 plus shipping over night was about 50.00. If you add that and mark it up 100% you get the 600.00 price. Avoid Firestone this is obvisouly their normal operational procedure. Sell you the most expensive thing they can and then come up with excusses when caught. (it was a mistake in the computer. THAT PARTS NOT OEM)

Heres problem number 3 Firestone will not install a part you buy and bring with you because, they warantee their work for a period of time with a free replacement if the part fails. Heres the scam you've already paid for the replacement part with their 100% above retail/discount retail markeup.
