Do not buy an onan 5500 gold! Unless you want to lose money & time

After installing this unit it ran greatfor a couple of weeks. Thats when it began cutting itself off at any time under any condition.in winter it's not much trouble but as soon as it gets hot (I live in south florida) the circus begins. I installed an auxillary cooling fan for the cover & it helped for a while... It still would shut down at will. After speaking with several tech reps (all of them want me to "TAKE IT TO THE DEALER".)

I'm no dummy, I do this stuff for a living. I cleaned everything off including the mag ciols & reset everything. Replaced the oil & filter & plugs. Even installed another cooling fan. The same thing happens. The unit has less than 1500 hours on it. I get no satisfaction from ANY of the people I've spoken to. It's as if the mock you for not just going to the dealer& paying someone $100.00 plus an hour to do the same things I've already done.

I REALLY wish I'd bought a GENERAC unit. I. M going back to a non PCB type OLD generator where the average joe can work on it without all the mistery & wizardry. As usual they have made life easier by making it WORSE!!! This product is up there with the Edsel & wood burning submarines! I'll NEVER buy anything ONAN has to offer. A class action lwasuit is in order to help the hunderds if not thousands of good people that got the same BS product. I'm NOT happy or amused. I am NOT finished
