Of Chicago Ridge, Illinois I too had a huge problem with Pep boys and agree with the complaint filed

I feel for this customer, because I had the same thing happen to me in the Chicago Ridge location. I had a 2000 dodge neon that I used for my job. One day it started spitting and sputtering and kept shutting down when I got it above 40 miles per hour. I went to Pep Boys of Chicago Ridge because I lived 2 blocks away I pulled in and asked them to check it out. I was told since my engine light was on that there was a 89.00 diagnostic fee for this my vehicle I dropped it off at 7:30 in the morning and was not called till 8:00 at night, I tried through out the day and no return phone calls (they are best for that).

What they told me was that I had a bad timing belt and that I had a huge major leak in a vacume hose. I have the quote that they gave me right here in front of me now and they told me it was going to cost me 2698.56 cents to fix the vehicle. My wife and I were devistated. I chewed out the dealer who I purchased it from and told him I was going sue them forthe damages. After reading about Neon's online for hour's I decided to go to the Auto Zone accross the street to buy a book when Todd (the salesmen) asked me what I was looking to do. I told him about Pep boys and he wanted to know if i had the vehicle with me. I said yes and he came outside and asked meto start it, so i did. He told me to shut it off and found out what the problem was.

Are you ready for this readers. It was a broken plug wire, can you believe it a broken plug wire. I paid 14.99 for new wires changed them right there in the parking lot started the car and ran like a champ. I drove the car back to Pep Boys and told them what the problem was and they responded, the manager that is responded, "Gee everyone is a Mechanic now adays" I demanded a refund for the 89.00 dollars andhe laughed at me and told me that I got the service and that there was no way I was getting a refund. After a heated discussion I was more angry for the fact that they lied to me to get more money, then I was about the car anymore.
