Mida Auto Service
Charge me for replacing a timing belt, but did replace it and kept the timing belt I supplied

Cars & Transport

I went to Midas to replace a water pump, timing belt. And 3 drive belts. I was told $260.00 for the charge. Left my Van came back the next day and was told to replace the timing belt would be an additional charge of $70.00. Which will bring my total charge to $330.00. Greg told if I do not replace the timing belt now it would cost me $330.00 later if I bring it back to them. I was also told that he believe someone had been working on the van because the bolts was half the way out.

I told him I had took to the Van to dealer but the dealer did not charge me anything they just gave me an estimate. Greg also told me I needed a bypass hose it was bad. I had already supplied the water pump, timing belt and the 3 drive belts. I went to Riley auto parts and return with bypass hose.

After returning I question Steve and Greg concerning what they had told me about bolts was half way out. I said the dealer was not suppose to have work on the van. Maybe the water pump is not bad just the hose is bad. Steve then told me the bolts had not been broken. I knew then something was not right. Steve prolonged my repair by telling he was working on another vehicle. Kept telling me I could go had and leave and he would called when it was ready. But I stayed and watch.

Well to get the story steve told me he replace my timing belt when he did not. He put another old belt under to van and put the timing belt cover on. The belt he put on the floor was brown. Before he replace the timing belt cover I had noticed that the belt was black. I told Steve that was not my timing belt and he needed installed the new belt. I told the owner, Greg that Steve did not replace my timing belt. Greg promise me the belt was replaced. Greg then told me if the belt was not replace he would give me $600.00 and all my money back. I knew he was lying he would have not gave me a dime. I paid the $330.00 by using my American Express card. I left and took Van straight to Percision Tune.

Precision charge $54.00 to verify whether the belt had been changed and $375.00 to replace the belt. I got them to agree to charge $330.00 to replace the timing belt if it had not been replace. Their technician unscrewed the top screws to timing belt cover and bent the cover to see whether the belt had been replaced. It had not.

I called Midas in Conyers told them the belt had not been replaced. I had taken it to Precision Tune on Wesley Chapel Rd in Decatur Ga. He knew the the manger and came to the shop. After Precision Tune took the old belt off Greg still lied and said they replace the belt. Now his story went to that the technician did not look at the belt and I gave him and old part. I said you must not have good technician. He should notice the different in a new and a old timing belt. And why would I pay him to put on a old used timing belt when the van already had a old used timing belt on it. Anyway he kept lying.

I paid Precision Tune $340.00 and stop the payment to Midas by contacting the credit card company. I then asked for the new belt he lied again and said I have the new belt. But its more I hope Midas sue me in court. So I can asked for punitive damage for intentional trying to defraud me.
