Scamed by 1 Car Sales

I was scamed by 1 Car Sales from Belleville Illinois. I purchased a 2002 RAV4 on Thursday June 19 and put down a $500 deposit to hold the car. Kathy told me the car needed very minor repair work and they were ordering a genuine Toyota part so I had to wait a little over a week before I picked it up.

I called 1 Car Sales and talked to Kathy Tuesday June 24. She said the part had come in for the repair and the car was ready to go. She also said I could talk to the mechanic who fixed the small problem if I had any questions. I was given the number of Phillip the mechanic. He assured me the Toyota was "like new" and was ready to be picked up. I called Kathy back late Tuesday afternoon and arranged to pick up the car Saturday around noon.

I did not hear from 1 Car Sales by Saturday so I asumed everything was still fine. We drove the 270 mile one way trip Saturday morning and arrived to pick up the car. When we got to the dealership, Mike (who said he was the owner) told us that the car had developed several "serious" problems and that it had already been sold. He said Kathy had left me a message Friday afternoon telling me why they couldn't sell me this car.

I never got this message and I had no idea what was waiting for me on Saturday. I find it very hard to belive that a car than had "serious" problem on Friday afternoon (so much so that it could not be sold) was magically fixed and sold before I got there Saturday.

Kathy was supposed to credit my Visa for the $500 deposit by I'll belive it when I see it. Mike did tell me how sorry he was and there was nothing he could do.

Where can you have a contract to buy a car, have your Visa charged for the deposit, go to pick up the car and have it sold to someone else? None other than 1 Car Sales in Bellville and Troy Illinois!
