Excessive charge for upgrade Navigation CD Map

Cars & Transport

I purchased a new 2007 BMW 328xi with the optional idrive system. This was a $2000 option that includes Navigation and other controls. I was appalled to recently receive an offer from BMW for a new navigation CD at the cost of $200 shipping & handling, although the vehicle is only 16 months old. I feel that once BMW sells a consumer an expensive option, they should offer any updates to that sytsem at no charge. As a consumer, it would've been much less costly to purchase a Garmin or Tom Tom unit that is completely satellite based and does not charge for costly upgrades.

I contact BMW USA about my dismay and received the same "stock answer" twice: "It is standard procedure to charge for upgrades to the vehicle. I am sorry for your dissatisfaction."

Perhaps BMW should've warned consumers when they purchase this expensive option that upgrade costs are additional.
