Went for oil change, DIDN'T PUT OIL IN MY CAR! Ruined lifters

I went to AutoZone to get the oil changed in my car, and it didn't take them long to do that and rotate the tires. I took my car to my mechanic a few days later because there was a loud clicking sound in the engine. It was the lifters. He went to check the oil and said, "there's no oil in here. That's your problem." I told him I just got it changed, and he said, "They must have forgotten to PUT OIL BACK IN IT!" How can you forget the oil during an oil change?
