Hoover Toyota
Lied about safety rating

Cars & Transport

We leased a 2002 Camry for our son.

We based our decision on the safety rating of the car. The dealer told us several times that the Camry has the highest U.S. Gov't (NHTSA) safety rating (five stars) in frontal and side impact. We found out after we leased the car and returned home that the 2002 Camry has a side impact safety rating of only two. If we had known that, we would not have leased the car.

We began trying to contact them the next day, but our calls were not returned. We visited in person, and the manager told us he would investigate and call us back (We live in another city). No one called until August 22, and then they told us it was too late to do anything.

My understanding is that it is against the law to misrepresent the NHTSA ratings (per the NHTSA regs on their website).
