America's Service Station
$13 charge to change a fuse!

Cars & Transport

I realize that this is not earth shattering, but I find the charges for changing a fuse incredible!

While driving from Florida to Virginia, a fuse in my automobile blew when I plugged in my auto cell phone charger. My son had purchased an entire set of fuses for about $5, but I hadn't put them in the car before I left. I drove without a radio for a few hours, but when I stopped for gas I asked if there was an auto supply store around. Had I found a Walmart or Auto Zone, I would have replaced the fuse myself.

When I found the service center, I doubted that they would replace it for free, like the good old days. It took the man all of five minutes to replace the fuse; I had already removed the cover! I expected a charge of about $5-6, but I was totally shocked when he said $13.00!!! To change a fuse! Here is more proof of how mechanics rip off females. The itemized statement charges $2 for the fuse, $0.96 for "supplies", 0.18 sales tax and $10 for labor. The grand total to change a fuse was $13.14. If we assume that the "part" was the actual fuse, what were the "supplies" fee for? And about the labor fee... Is this business customarily charging $10/ 5 minutes, or $120/hr in labor? And does pulling a fuse merit the same charge as pulling a spark plug?
What a rip!
