Broke a rod and a vacumm hose and claimed they didnt know why engine making noise. Ripoff

Took my Intrepid to have front brakes fixed and front end aligned. Caliper on left front wheel making loud noise. Took car back to their shop next day. The said car ready. Started car and it died. Started car again and could not get it off their parking lot - engine making a loud noise that it was not making before they "worked" on car. An independent mechanic said there was a broken rod and broken vaccum hose. How could a rod be broken when had brakes relined and front end aligned?
