Frontier Motor Cars
Misrepresentation of a vehicle and deceptive sales practice ripoff

Cars & Transport

I recently discovered this site and would like to file the following complaint against Frontier Motor Cars of Milwaukee

On the evening of Feb 9 I went to Frontier Motor Cars to purchase a used vehicle. After looking at a few cars on my own I made contact with a salesperson whom I had spoke to earlier on the phone. Before showing me anything else he proclaimed to me he had a good car in mind for me but it was slightly over the 2500.00 I was looking to spend.

I was not immediately interested due to the price of $2865 however when he further told me it had some 50k miles on it I felt a need to look. At the time he showed me the car it had no Wisconsin buyers guide in the window, it did however have a sign saying "Not inspected for sale", witch I now have in my possession.

After he got the keys he told me that he would have to drive it off the lot because it was not safety inspected. Once in the car he looked at the odometer and told me that he was off a little and that in fact the car had 56, xxx miles on it. He then drove the car at most 2 miles around the block, being sure to show me that the engine ran good, the heat worked, and the brakes were good. He then pulled back into the dealership never offering to allow me to drive. Because he had presented me with the alleged fact that the car was original miles and I saw no reason as we drove to doubt it I did not ask to drive the car myself.

Once inside I was presented all the standard paperwork and then a copy of the Wisconsin buyers guide. On the guide no indication of mileage is given, no odometer reading, nothing checked to indicate actual, not actual or over mechanical limit. It also discloses some minor problems along with a "shifting problem" described as "late gear engagement".

I never noticed anything disturbing during the ride so I figured it was not a serious issue. When I left the dealership I had only driven a few miles before I started to have trouble. For lack of technical explanation it was as if the car came out of gear at stop signs. When it happens the engine will rev and without any real warning seem to go back in gear. The Wisconsin Buyers Guide is dated January 31st for a completion date. This tag was not in the window when I first saw the car; however it was in the window when I left the dealership.

I find it strange that a car would sit on the lot for over a week after the inspection had been completed without the buyers guide in the window. I feel that the salesman new about the transmission trouble and by not having the sticker on the window the salesman was provided an excuse to get behind the wheel rather then me and controlling the length of the ride to conceal the severe nature of the transmission problems. When this vehicle is cold the transmission is fine however after warming up, about 3 miles it starts to malfunction. I feel like this was deliberately done to conceal the problem.

Further when I got home with the vehicle I went online to view a carfax report witch comes back clean, however it clearly reports a reading of 114,000 miles on 2-1-03 showing that the odometer reading on the vehicle of 56, xxx miles is clearly in excess of mechanical limits. I was told very matter of factly by the salesman while presenting the car, that it was original miles.

My sister, who was with me heard the statements as well. I contacted the salesman on Sat 2-10 and told him what I found; he then said to me that he had assumed it was actual miles because of the clean condition of the car. He then tried to blow it off saying what do you get for 3000 these days. 100k miles is a major difference. Kelly blue book's website values the car in excellent condition at 2825.00 with 56k miles, with 156k it values at 2350.00.

This car is far from excellent condition especially considering the transmission problems. Not only was the car grossly misrepresented I was also charged considerably more then its worth.
