Greedy owner, tech poor customer experience ripoff

I went in for a smog check. Rather than tell me my ignition was visibly not stock, they decided to perform the entire test, charge me, then tell me I had pass the smog test but failed the visual.

Other places had the common courtesy to tell me if they would not accept a visible change and ask me to come back.

To make matters worse, the came back after 30 minutes with the old part in place. They then wanted to either charge me for "my repair work" or charge me for a NEW test! They knew what they were doing: generating maximum money at their patron's expense.

Rather than give them more money, I went down the street and had my car smogged my another shop. Companies I went to in the past either gave a quick look over / warning before starting or offered to re-test once or twice for free after failing. I'll now ask before handing over my keys...
