Cantonese resturant ignorant incident - Ho Wah

In 1989 i got a job with a local working band. On saturday night after we got paid, along with some friends we would go to a cantonese resturant that was open untill 4:00am. This went on for 2 yrs, every time i would order butterfly shrimp (a favorite of mine in the area) egg roll soup and coffe. One night the shrimp came and my friends noticed a srange odor from my plate, thinking something was wrong we all tried a bite size piece which did not stay in any one's mouth!

When i told the waitress the shrimp was bad she took the plate back to the kitchen. Thinking i was getting another plate i got the visit from an apparent owner/manager.

She asked what was wrong and i told her the shrimp was bad. She replied it's the way it taste here??? I asked her if she seen me here before and if she remembered if i ordered the same thing every saturday night. She replied yes i know you come here alot.informing her that this plate tonight does not taste like the others in the past

She went back and brought me another plate... Thats right! The same one minus one piece.

I then sent it back, told them to keep the shrimp i'll be fine with the soup, eggroll and coffe, When the bill came the shrimp was on it. My friends now were leaving, i told the waitress i was not paying for bad shrimp i did not eat. As i was finishing my coffee i noticed there was a fellow at the door with a key letting people out. I then went to the cashier to pay for what i ate and was told the police were called because i refused to pay my bill!!! Wrong!

I was more than willing to pay for everything but the shrimp. Now they can't speak english all of a sudden, all they could say was YOU CHEAP YOU PAY? Thats right i was refused exit and had to wait until they closed. The police never came.

They decided to scream and yell at me in asian but decided to take payment on the food i did eat after sitting there until 5: oo in the morning.

Iv'e never seen such ignorance in my entire life and was hoping the police would come so i can question the resturants' forced confinment attitude. I get alot of laughs telling this story around town. Hope no one else had to go through that!!! I still visit other asian resturants in the area but not at the HO WAH. Not really a rip off but strange! These days the place is empty and closes early i suspect there were other people with problems there, rumour has it the health board made a few visits, too bad, i did like the place.
